About The Fathers' Forum
About The Fathers' Forum:

In 1980 I hoped and dreamed with my wife that we could have a baby. And in 1981 or son Morgan was born. Four years later our daughter Julia was born in 1985. Out of my own struggles to understand what being a father was all about, I began the Fathers’ Forum programs.

From the pregnancy on I realized that there were very few services both educationally or socially for me to meet with other men and hear about their experiences as fathers. In 1983 with a few other new fathers I started a men’s group for new dads. From that experience I became aware of how essential having a dialogue between men about fatherhood is to understanding and valuing are roles as parents.

I decided to focus my training as a Family Therapist, researcher and educator on men and fatherhood. And now the Fathers’ Forum offers; Men’s Groups for Fathers (with preschool-age kids), “Becoming a Father” classes, Walks for Dads and Children, as well as the individual and couple counseling I offer privately as a licensed Marriage and Family Counselor.

Currently all of our programs are in the San Francisco bay area of California. I hope one day to expand the Fathers’ Forum concept to other cities where dads can begin to start groups with other expectant and new fathers. Please visit the section on “Starting Your Own Fathers’ Forum Group” for more information on how to start a group of your own. (And feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions!)

This On-line version of the Fathers' Forum offers electronically some of the information and materials I use in my classes, workshops and groups with fathers. It is my attempt to offer a “virtual community” for expectant and new dads.

The Fathers' Forum is my experiment in trying to help fathers connect with each other and reflect on what it means to become a parent. At the Fathers' Forum my specific focus is on expectant and new fathers; I feel committed to those early years of parenting in which so much is changing and forming in our lives as men.
Thank you for stopping by!
